Sherry Bennett – From College Blogger to Millionaire Entrepreneur:
I began blogging in the fall of 1996. I was a 17 year-old college student at the time so I chose to create a website about college life.
The site became very popular with the students on campus. Many students had family and friends attending other colleges. Thanks to them.. the word began to spread and soon my website became popular on several other college campuses as well.
I had some affiliate links on my site for college essentials as well as a few dorm room decor items I thought college students might appreciate. Before long my new side hustle was providing me with more than enough money to buy pizza for myself and several friends. 😄
Encouraged by my growing success.. I decided to create another blog. Growing up we had a dog and two cats.. so I decided on the pet niche for my second blog.
This site was focused mainly on dogs and it caught on with my audience fairly quickly. As a result I decided to create another site in the pet niche and focus that one mainly on cats.
I linked them to each other and because I had designed them exactly the same no one was really aware when they left one site and arrived on the other. It gave the appearance of one large site.. while at the same time giving me two separate sites in the search engines.
Since I already had quite a few followers.. my two new sites took off very quickly and started doing fairly well. A few months later I decided to start a fourth site in another niche.
This site was in an extremely popular niche with amazing income potential. I began having incredible success with this site and as a result I made the decision to create several more sites in this niche.
Making a Very Difficult Decision:
It was becoming increasingly obvious I was not going to have the time to manage all of these websites effectively as well as give the required time to my studies and maintain my grade point average. It was decision time!
In 1999 I made the decision to leave college and pursue a career as a Professional Blogger. This was a decision my parents strongly opposed.. which meant I would have to give my new career everything I had to convince them I had made the right decision.
Working anywhere from 12 to 16 hours a day.. within 18 months of leaving college and blogging full-time I was closing in on my initial goal of earning 6-figures a year.
The year 2000 marked the first time I earned a 6-figure annual income. In that moment I knew there was nowhere to go but UP!
Since that time I have created many more sites.. selling some along the way while growing others to become the flagship sites that provide the majority of my income.
